Growing up with glasses

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News Service, August 18) – Growing up with glasses is complicated. Having four eyes comes with many attached issues, and I’m sure that anyone who is wearing or has worn eyeglasses can relate to it. It actually became a trending topic on the social media.

Now that I don’t need to wear them anymore, here are some of the stuff that I will and will not miss growing up with glasses:

1. It is a struggle. Something as simple as lying down or drinking coffee or being outside on rainy days can be really difficult.

2. Those visits to the optometrist can get really awkward. Not to mention stressful. Imagine saying that you see the “E” in the Snellen Chart and nothing else. Imagine the unbelieving look in your optometrist’s face.

3. Glasses are so difficult to clean. And you always end up using your shirt.

4. Forget watching 3D movies.

5. You just resign yourself to the fact that you’ll always have red marks in your nose. Or in the side of your head, above your ears.

6. There is always that person that will ask you if they can try on your glasses. And they will not take no for an answer.

7. People always remark that you look different without your glasses. Then, they will hold up their fingers and ask you how many fingers can you see.

8. The time when you lose your glasses and you cannot find them because you need them to see. The struggle is real.

9. Those moments when your glasses break or your frame snaps and you do make-shift repair using masking tape. That’s why I always keep a spare.

10. Finally, wearing glasses automatically makes you look smart. That’s nice.
