MANILA – A group of eleven young professionals from the Philippines, who are currently engaged in international university linkage and exchange work, flew off to Japan on Monday, September 28th to participate in the JENESY2015 Programme. They are the first batch of representatives from the Philippines to join the program for FY2015-2016. As part of the program, they will be in Japan from September 28 – October 6 to take part in a variety of cultural and youth exchange activities, including university and museum visits, city tours, courtesy calls on government offices, and traditional art presentations.

To prepare them for the trip, a pre-departure orientation led by the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) was held at the JICC Multipurpose Hall, Embassy of Japan on Sunday, September 27, 2015. During the orientation, the participants received lectures on Japanese culture and etiquette, as well as travel arrangements and immigration requirements. JICC Director Mr. Tatsuo Kitagawa delivered the Opening Remarks and emphasized the importance of establishing intra- and inter-university partnerships in a globalized world. He also spoke about the role of JENESYS participants in carrying out the objectives of the JENESYS2015 Programme.

JENESYS2015 succeeded JENESYS 2.0, which originated from the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme first introduced by the Japanese Government in 2007 to promote good will and understanding among Asian youths by facilitating themed cultural exchanges and scholarly collaborations. Over 1,000 Filipinos have participated in the JENESYS 2.0 Programme in FY2014-2015. (Eagle News Service/Embassy of Japan)
