PHL wins first-ever SEA Games gold in women’s basketball

(Eagle News)–The Philippines women’s basketball team made history on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after winning the country’s first-ever gold medal in the biennial sports event. The Filipino players routed Thailand with a 91-71 blowout  at the Mall of Asia Arena. Jack Animam and Janine Pontejos led the Philippines’ offense  against Thailand led by Tiffany Bias. Indonesia copped the bronze after defeating 2017 gold medalist Malaysia, 70-59.  

PHL clinches silver in men’s volleyball after falling to Indonesia

(Eagle News) — The Philippines’ men’s volleyball team clinched the silver medal on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after a loss to Indonesia. The Filipinos trailed the Indonesians in three sets– 25-21, 27-25, 25-17—despite best efforts and loud cheers from the mostly Filipino crowd. The Philippine team lost to their Southeast Asian neighbor after an upset over powerhouse Thailand over the weekend. This was the Philippines’ first finals appearance in decades.

Russian sports minister says athletes can dispute WADA ban via sports arbitration court
