PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa visits Colombia

QUEZON City, Philippines – Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa is currently in Colombia to learn from the said country’s victory in its own war against illegal drugs. According to Dela Rosa, he plans to study and observe the methods used by the Colombia to totally suppress the illegal drug trade. Colombia was notorious during the ’80s for its illegal drug cartels supplying 90% of the world’s cocaine, thereby gaining the tag “narco-state”.  

House of Representatives grants immunity to DOJ witnesses

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) – Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez has granted immunity to the six witnesses presented by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the alleged illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). With the grant of immunity, no case may be filed against the witnesses based on any of their statements made during the House hearing.

Senator Gordon asks for support as new chair of Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights

QUEZON City, Philippines – Senator Richard Gordon asked for the support of his fellow senators after being voted as the new chair of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights.  This was after majority of the senators voted to oust Senator Leila De Lima as chair of the powerful senate committee, with a 16 – 4 vote.
