DFA: No Filipinos hurt in car attack in Tokyo

(Eagle News)–No Filipinos were hurt after a car rammed against a crowd celebrating the New Year in Tokyo, Japan. The Department of Foreign Affairs said there were no Filipinos among the nine who were injured in the attack on Takeshita St. in  Harajuku. The DFA said this was based on a report from the Philippine embassy in Tokyo. Authorities have the driver, Kazuhiro Kusakabe, whom they said acted with “intent to murder.”    

Australia warns citizens vs traveling to parts of Mindanao

(Eagle News)–Australia has asked its citizens not to travel to Central and Western Mindanao, including Zamboanga and Sulu. According to the advisory, Australians should also reconsider traveling to Eastern Mindanao. Australia issued the security advisory after the Cotabato mall bombing that killed at least two and injured several people. The attack took place on Dec. 31. Authorities said the Daulah Islamiyah could be linked to the attack.  

BOC: Trash intercepted at Manila port to be shipped back to South Korea next week

(Eagle News)—The garbage which was illegally shipped to Misamis Oriental last year will be sent back to South Korea next week. “We expect the 51 garbage-filled containers stored at MICT (Mindanao International Container Terminal)  to be home-bound by January 9 provided that all regulatory requirements are readily available,”  MICT port collector John Simon said. UK warns against traveling to Mindanao

(Eagle News)—The United Kingdom has warned its residents against traveling to parts of Mindanao due to “terrorist activity” and clashes between government troops and insurgent groups. “The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to western and central Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago..,” the advisory said.
