QUEZON City, Philippines (October 7) -As we already mentioned, we need valid ID’s in our daily lives. This is part 3 of our three-part article about valid ID’s!
Postal ID
as the name implies, Postal IDs are needed to identify the address and identity of a person for mailing purposes. This card is valid for three years.
Last February 3, 2015 the Philippine Post Office announced that there will be a new and improved ID system, the requirements to get it are as follows:
- Birth Certificate– Issued by NSO or Local Civil Registrar (Original and photocopy)
- Proof of Address– Original and photocopied Barangay Clearance or Utility Bill (electricity bill, water bill, credit card statement and the like)
Notes:
- Married females must bring their Marriage Certificate to validate change of name from birth document.
- Minors or those below 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian.
Steps:
- Prepare the necessary documents mentioned above and submit them at the nearest post office in your area.
- Fill up theapplication form. You can get one at the nearest post office or you can download it at:

- After your documents are screened, you will go to the nearest ID “capture” station to be photographed and fingerprinted. There are 260 postal ID capture stations nationwide and you can find them at:

Wait for it to be delivered at your home. It usually takes 5 working days for Metro Manila address, 7 working days for other cities and municipalities, and 15 working days for island provinces and barangays.
School ID
This type of identification card is use by the students at their school for their security, access control and personal identification. The process and requirements depends on the college, university or school you are attending but usually it requires certificate of registration and personal appearance.
Driver’s License
- Drivers, car owners, and all people who owns any kind of motorized vehicle must have a Driver’s license.
- It gives you the permission to drive and bring your vehicle anywhere.
- Driver’s license has three classifications: student permit, non-professional, and professional. The Student permit is the initial license that you will get when you apply for a driver’s license for the first time. Second is the Non-professional license which usually is for people who operate private vehicles in a private capacity without the purpose of earning money from it. Lastly is the Professional license for people who paid to drive a vehicle (such as PUV drivers and truck drivers taxi driver, chauffeur, pay driver, test driver, delivery (commerce), motorman and pilots.
Non-pro licensed drivers can apply for a professional as long as they are required to have one or planning to have a vehicle that requires professional license and must at least be 17 years of age*
*applicants below 18 years of age must be accompanied by one of the parents to the LTO District Office/Licensing Center nearest their place of residence. In case a parent/guardian is not present, written parental consent must be duly notarized.
Below are the steps and the things needed on how to get a driver’s license:
Eligibility for Driver’s licensing:
- You must be at least seventeen (17) years old.
- You must be physically and mentally fit to operate a motor vehicle.
- You must not be a drug user or alcoholic.
- You must be able to read and write in Filipino or English.
- You must be clean, neat and presentable.
List of Driver’s License Requirements
- Duly accomplished Application form for Driver’s License (ADL).
- Valid Student Permit (at least 1 month old)
- Medical Certificate with Official Receipt (from LTO accredited or Government physician)
- Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN) if employed
- Passing score in the written and practical examinations
Steps on how to get a Driver’s license:
1. Get a Student Permit
Before applying, you should accomplish a Student Permit also from LTO. When testing your driving skills on the road on your first few tries, you’ll need to present this permit to authorities who might issue you a ticket. A student permit will cost you around PHP 300 for 2-3 hours of processing. The one-month-old student permit is your time to really practice your driving.
2. Medical Examination
Before filing your application for a driver’s license on the same day, you will be required to get a medical examination which will cost around PHP500. Make sure that you only deal with LTO-accredited clinics, usually near the LTO branch.
3. Road Signs and Major Traffic Rules
As early as the thought of driving pops in your head, be wary of the road signs. In your exam, you will be asked for around 50 questions of road signs. If you pass the exam, you will get in to the next step.
4. Practice driving
When you apply for any of the two driver’s license, your skills will be test through a practical exam facilitated by an LTO officer and gauge if you’re capable of driving. It is notable though that a lot of people brags about getting a license without undergoing this process. But in reality, these people are the ones who get caught in vehicular mishaps because of foolish risks. No one is worthy to be on the road without any driving knowledge.
Senior Citizen’s ID Card
Elders who reached 60 years old and above should get this ID card to be able to enjoy all the benefits and privileges that comes from it.
Senior citizens must prepare the following requirements:
- photocopy of birth certificate
- 2 pieces of 1×1 picture
- valid ID
- Accomplished application form.
Procedure:
- Fill out the application form, ask for some assistance if needed.
- Submit the accomplished application form together with the requirements to the personnel in charge.
DSWD ID
Also known as Solo Parent ID. Made to improve the lives of the parents left solo or alone with the responsibility of parenthood due to death, abandonment, disappearance or prolonged absence of the other parent or any other person who solely provides parental care and support to a child or children.
CRITERIA FOR SUPPORT
Any solo parent whose income falls below the poverty threshold as set by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and subject to the assessment of the DSWD worker in the area shall be eligible for assistance. A solo parent can directly inquire from the following agencies to avail of their services:
- Health Services (DOH)
- Educational Services (CHED, TESDA)
- Housing (NHA)
- Parental Leave (Employer, DOLE, CSC)
Note: A solo parent whose income is above the poverty threshold shall enjoy only such limited benefits as flexible work schedule, parental leave and others to be determined by the DSWD.
Here are the requirements on how to get a Solo Parent ID
- The applicants for the solo parent ID must bring the following documents to the City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office:
- Barangay certification certifying Solo Parent’s residency in the barangay for the last six months.
- Certificates e.g., birth certificates of children, death certificate of spouse and other appropriate documentary support.
- Income tax return or any document that will establish the income level of the solo parent.
- The social worker receives and ensures that all documents are complete and registers the applications with an appropriate case number in the log-book Registry of Solo Parents.
Note: The ID will be issued after 30 days from filing. The validity of the ID is one year and is renewable
It is good that we can be able to produce the identification cards that we have to have for we can use it whenever we go and whatever legal transactions that we will undergo and also it is necessary for it can provide our identity and be able to be known and be honored of privileges that we should get with just a simple card.
