Your views on Miss Universe 2015 – Pointing fingers

Miss Universe 2015QUEZON City, Philippines (December 25) – Our representative for the Miss Universe 2015,  Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach got the crown in an unconventional, and awkward, manner. The issue became magnified not only because it was aired live on TV, but also because of the blow-by-blow updates on social media. Different opinions & sides; many blaming Steve Harvey, Colombians protesting that Ms. Ariadna Gutierrez got “robbed” by Ms. Wurtzbach, supported by all-out disapproval from Germany’s Sarah Riek, saying that “no other contestants voted for Philippines”.

People are truly judgmental when it comes to mistakes. Steve may be tense and stressed because hosting a large event is no easy job. Add the stress of live broadcast and you really have an accident waiting to happen.

He took the responsibility, he apologized to both Wurtzbach and Gutierrez and the viewers, and he still did a great job. He didn’t mean to do something horrible, who knows that would happen? Maybe his fingers just covered the small font of the card, or maybe he got confused because of the layout. As humans, we’re the ones who should understand him the most. Everyone makes errors, and everyone agrees with that.

As for Ms. Wurtzbach robbing Ms. Gutierrez, the organizers released the official score card, and it shows that Wurtzbach really triumphed. Even Steve showed the crowd his card, and it shows the same results. No protest about that.

To Ms. Riek, no wonder you only came in at 80th place. A beautiful face is nothing if the attitude is despicable. If you’ll say something, do it prim and proper. You’re still a beauty queen—on the outside—after all.

All is still good. Our representative won and it’s an addition to the pride of our country. Behind the poverty and hardships we Filipinos face, we still make our escape watching a pageant, igniting the little flame that is called “nationalism”.
