Wife of slain Maute leader released for “further investigation”

(Eagle News) — The wife of one of the slain leaders of the Maute Group has been released by the Department of Justice pending further investigation.

The DOJ said the complaint of rebellion against Najiya Dilangalen Karon-Maute, Otto Maute’s wife, was “not proper for inquest but for regular preliminary investigation” since she supposedly committed the acts seven months before she was arrested in Cotabato City.

According to the DOJ, the complainants also “did not present any other evidence against the respondent,” apart from the statement of Martino Elyana, who was abducted by members of the terrorist group.

Elyana had said he saw Najiya and her husband bringing food to Maute members then holed up in Bato Mosque in June.

Najiya was ordered to submit her counter-affidavit in February.
