Weekend Box Office: “The Martian” retains top spot, “Pan” stumbles in debut

After a massive debut last week, Fox’s “The Martian” retained its hold over the weekend U.S. box office on Sunday (October 11) raking in $37 million and pushing its total sales to $108.7 million.

Staying steady in second place from last week was Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania 2” that showed impressive stamina after racking up $20.3 million in its third weekend.

Stumbling through the weekend box office was “Pan” that made a dismal debut this week, landing in third place.

The Warner Bros’ big-budget fantasy brought in a meagre $15.5 million in its opening week.

In fourth place was the Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro led comedy “The Intern” that added $8.7 million to its worldwide take of $49.6 million.

Rounding off the box office was Lionsgate’s gritty drug war thriller “Sicario” that plunged from third to fifth place after raking in $7.3 million this weekend, and a total of $26.7 million.
