(Eagle News)–The United States announced it was extending aid to the victims of Typhoon “Ompong” in Cagayan, one of the hardest-hit areas.
The aid, to be coursed through the US Agency for International Development and a local non-government organization, is in the form of hygiene supplies for 5500 people who lost their homes.
This is apart from the transport of 1000 metric tons of food through the United Nations World Food Programme to affected families.
The transport is part of USAID’s disaster preparedness programming with the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“I would like to express again our deepest condolences for the victims of Typhoon Ompong,” US Ambassador Sung Kim said as he lauded the Philippine government’s efforts to evacuate those in vulnerable areas.
“We hope that our support will provide comfort to the victims during this difficult time. We also hope to provide further assistance as needs are identified,” he added.
