Typhoon Kammuri (Tisoy) intensifies with 230kph gusts, to make landfall over Sorsogon tonight, says PAGASA

(Eagle News) — Typhoon Kammuri, with the local name Tisoy, is expected to make landfall tonight, Monday, Dec. 2, over Sorsogon in the next three hours as it further intensified with gusts of up to 230 kilometers per hour, according to PAGASA’s 8 p.m. bulletin.

“The eyewall of Typhoon “TISOY” is now bringing violent winds over Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon,” PAGASA said. “TISOY” is expected to make landfall over Sorsogon in the next 3 hours.”

As of 7 p.m. today, Monday, the eye of Typhoon “TISOY” was located based on all available data including Virac Doppler Radar at 90 km East of Juban, Sorsogon (12.9°N, 124.8°E).

It has intensified in strength with maximum sustained winds of up to 165 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h, moving West at 20 km/h.

As of 8 p.m., more areas in the in Luzon and Visayas are under signal number 3. These are the following:

PAGASA said that between tonight and tomorrow morning, there will be frequent to continuous heavy to intense rains over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Southern Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Frequent to continuous heavy rains will be felt over “Samar, Eastern Samar, Rizal, rest of Quezon, Laguna, and Oriental Mindoro. Moderate to intermittent heavy rains over Metro Manila, Occidental Mindoro, rest of CALABARZON, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and the rest of Eastern Visayas,” PAGASA’s bulletin said.

Between tomorrow morning and evening, there will also be frequent to continuous heavy to intense rains over CALABARZON, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, and Romblon. Occasional to frequent heavy rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Calamian Islands, as well as intermittent heavy rains over Aklan ,Capiz, and northern Antique.

These areas will be “highly or very highly susceptible to flooding and rain-induced landslides,” PAGASA said.

Storm surges as high as more than three meters are also possible in several coastal areas in Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur; up to 3 meters over several coastal areas in Batangas, Quezon, Albay, and Marinduque, while several coastal areas in Batangas, Quezon, Albay, and Marinduque could have storm surges of up to three meters.
