WASHINGTON, United States (CCTV) — U.S. President Donald Trump’s first state visit to China will set a positive tone for the future development of relations between the world’s two largest economies, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai said in a recent press briefing in Washington D.C.
Trump is scheduled for a trip to China on Nov. 8-10, a visit that both Beijing and Washington D.C. expect to bear bountiful fruit and inject new energy into relations between the two great powers.
Trump will also be the first foreign head of state to visit Beijing after the Communist Party of China (CPC) concluded its 19th national congress last month.
The Chinese ambassador said the epoch-making CPC National Congress had drawn up a plan for China’s peaceful development, in which the Party underscored its foreign policy on building closer partnerships with major countries, including the U.S.
He said the international community has high expectations for the relations between China and the U.S., which as two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, should always work together to address global challenges and strengthen global governance.
Cui said Trump’s upcoming visit to China will help build a better partnership between the two nations.
“The most important thing about President Trump’s visit this time – his first state visit to China – and the meeting between the two heads of state is that it will determine the direction and set a positive tone for the China-U.S. relations in the future,” he said.
The meeting between the two leaders will help bilateral ties continue to evolve on the right track, noted the ambassador.
By maintaining a generally healthy and stable relationship, the two countries will work more effectively in their cooperation and management of difference on any issue, said Cui.
