Trillanes faces businesswoman who accused him of kidnapping and serious illegal detention at DOJ hearing

(Eagle News) – Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV came face to face with the woman who had filed charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention against him before the Department of Justice on Friday, Oct. 11.

Davao del Norte businesswoman Guillermina Barrido swore before the DOJ, during the case’s preliminary investigation, and maintained that Trillanes and his group, including lawyer Jude Sabio and a priest, detained her for 14 days in December 2016 while she was being pressured to testify and link President Rodrigo Duterte to illegal drugs.

In her complaint, Barrido said she was offered P1 million by Trillanes’ group just to link President Duterte to drugs.

She said she was kept inside the Convent of Canussian Sisters and was prevented from leaving the premises until she signs an affidavit prepared for her against Duterte.  Barrido, came with her lawyer, Atty. Larry Gadon, during the case’s preliminary investigation.

Trillanes, on the other hand, accused Barrido of being involved in several swindling activities which the latter vehemently denied.

Sabio and the other respondents failed to appear during the hearing. Only Trillanes and the priest Albert Alejo were present. They were asked to present their counter-affidavits by Oct 22. However, the priest Alejo was allowed to submit his counter-affidavit on Oct. 23.

The DOJ set the next hearing on Oct. 22.
