Time management 101

QUEZON City, Philippines (January 22) – Time. Either we have to much of it or too little of it. So how do we properly manage time?

MAKE A TIME PLAN AND CONSIDER FIRST THINGS FIRST. It’s better if your plan is written and posted on your work station or desk. This will help you to remember the next thing to do and will keep you in the track of productivity. Check the things you accomplished and evaluate your productivity.

Is planning enough? No. you need to have a strategy or style to accomplish your goals. What you should do, what you should avoid and how you will label your priorities.

DISCIPLINE. “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”- Jim Rohn

Follow what you planned and avoid leaving your track.  Without discipline you can’t do your goals. Keep your focus and do not look into distraction. Convince your mind that what you are doing is for yourself. You will reap it in the future. Do not think that you’re being oppressed. There is no overnight success. Stop complaining to the world by your social media account. It will not help you but rather distract by replying to comments like “what happened?” or “you can do it” and “good luck”

DISTRACTIONS.  Avoid doing unnecessary things like watching a show or movie. Today, there are many ways to catch up. Put down your phone if you don’t need it or leave it far from your work station. The sudden light because of your phone will distract you. Check it once in a while for emergencies or if you are expecting a call. Remember, the phone is for your convenience, not the caller’s. Avoid being distracted by it.

Managing your social media account is not included in your plan, isn’t it? According to recent data of GlobalWebIndex, 28% of online activity or 1.72 hours per day was consumed in social media. This average is an increase from 2013 poll of 1.66 hours per day. The study was participated by 170,000 internet users. Imagine the average time we consumed. For now, we need to focus.

DILEMMA. It a situation in which you have to make a difficult choice. So how you should deal with it? Weigh your options. Research if necessary, it is better to know even the smallest detail about your choices. Label what is need and want, feelings and mind, top and least priorities.

URGENCY AND IMPORTANCE. Many are confused with urgency and importance. These words both deal with a certain goal, urgent is based on deadline while important is not. Urgent task needs to be done within an amount of time while the importance depends on its impact to a person. It is important to plan after graduation but you have to comply with urgent requirements first.

CELEBRATE AND TREAT YOURSELF. After overcoming the “hell week”, you deserve to treat yourself. If you don’t, you will break in the middle of another “hell week” wave. Timing is everything, know when to chill and know when to hustle.
