Thousands awake despite midnight wake-up call

_MG_0110“From the looks of their smiles, you’d think we were sleeping all night,” mused one teenager inside the Philippine Arena, minutes before its official inauguration.

Indeed, thousands of people, many of whom are members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), were in a frenzy inside the 55,000-seater arena. This despite having trooped to the site in Ciudad de Victoria hours before the 8 am celebration.

“Karamihan samin, before 1 am gising na,” said a Marlon Morato, referring to the call-time of the scheduled departure of at least 3000 buses which took INC members to the arena for the inauguration. “Pero okay lang kasi masaya naman.”

Many have been anticipating the much-hyped event, which is expected to fetch an even bigger audience next week during the INC centennial celebration.
