Third alarm raised in Marikina river as water levels continue to rise; forced evacuation enforced

(Eagle News) – The Marikina City government has raised the third alarm for the Marikina river, as waters continued to rise and reached 19.4 meters as of 7:02 pm on Saturday, August 11 when torrential monsoon rains did not let up over Metro Manila and Rizal.

The third alarm was first raised at 4:57 p.m. on Saturday, when the water level reached 18.1 meters.

Waters quickly rose and was recorded at 18.9 meters as of 6 p.m. An hour later, at 7:02 p.m., the Marikina river’s water level reached 19.4 meters.

Under the Marikina river’s alarm level system, once the water level reaches 18 meters, the city government will raise the third alarm which means “forced evacuation” for nearby residents.
