Informing the Public about the ASEAN organization

Many people still lack awareness about the ASEAN organization itself and its purposes.

In fact there has been a report that citizens of ASEAN member nations generally don’t know much about or are uninterested in the regional grouping even as the 2015 ASEAN integration nears.  A study released by the ASEAN secretariat also found that three out of four people “lack a basic understanding” of what ASEAN is and what it is striving to do.

In this episode of ASEAN IN FOCUS, a Filipino who was a former key officer of the ASEAN Secretariat, Liza Makinano, informs the public about the ASEAN organization, including its aims and fundamentals.  She also touches on the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN charter, along with  Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Executive Fellow Dr. Carlos Tabunda Jr.

Liza Makinano was a Senior Officer of the Executive Support Division, Office of the Secretary General, and a former senior officer of the Security Cooperation Division of the ASEAN Political Security Community.  She has also drafted speeches for a  former ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan of Thailand.  Makinano is currently a DAP fellow.

This series of interviews in the program ASEAN IN FOCUS of NET 25 (Monday  to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., with replays 11:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) is part of Eagle Broadcasting’s advocacy to promote awareness about the ASEAN region and the 2015 ASEAN integration.
