LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, United States (Reuters) – Chris Hemsworth joined leading ladies Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain on the red carpet in Los Angeles Monday night (April 11) for the premiere of fantasy film “The Huntsman: Winter’s War.”
The prequel to the 2012 “Snow White and the Huntsman”, which was inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairytale, sees Oscar winner Theron and “Thor” actor Chris Hemsworth reprise their roles as evil Queen Ravenna and The Huntsman.
“Look that is what I loved about this script,” said Hemsworth, when asked about the film’s ‘power girl’ theme.
“The fairytales in the past were predominately the damsel in distress or the female would be rescued by the male or the prince. This time it’s the other way around. I think about my daughter and I would love for her to see a film like this, where woman are empowered and in charge of their own destiny and lead armies and are warriors and can take over kingdoms and so on. It was exciting.”
The story follows Ravenna and her sister Freya (Blunt) as they seek kingdom domination with The Huntsman and his bow and arrowwielding love interest Sara (Chastain) battling to defeat them in their quest.
While Ravenna will stop at nothing to remain the fairest in the land, Freya turns into an icy-hearted villainess after losing her child.
“They can’t expect something dark and broody,” director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan told Reuters. “They have to expect something light-hearted and fun. They have to come here light-hearted and fun, with their date, with their popcorn and girlfriends and have a good time.”
The story looks at the origins of The Huntsman from the 2012 movie, which starred Kristen Stewart as Snow White.
“The Huntsman: Winter’s War”, already out in Britain and Ireland, will hit movie screens in the U.S. on April 22.
