Measles cases spike in Western Visayas; over 1,000 cases recorded

Based on the data of the Department of Health, the number of suspected measles cases increased to 1,068 from January to March 7 this year. DOT: Western Visayas, top destination of foreign tourists coming in the country

KALIBO, Aklan (Eagle News) – Western Visayas remains the top destination for foreign tourists traveling to the country. According to the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Region 6, in the first six months alone, foreign tourist arrivals in the region have reached over 2 million. DOT Regional Director Helen Catalyst said that the top foreign tourists to visit Region 6 are Koreans. They are followed by the Chinese, the Taiwanese, Americans and Malaysians.

More than 2,000 passengers stranded

More than 2, 000 passengers were stranded in the ports of five regions due to the rampage of tropical storm “Mario”. According to the Philippine Coast Guard, a total of 2, 480 passengers were stranded in the ports of NCR, Cebu, Southern Tagalog, Western Visayas and Bicol. A total of 15 vessels, 7 motor boats and 252 rolling cargoes were not allowed to travel.
