Commuters to get free LRT2 rides on Sunday, Dec. 30

(Eagle News)–The Light Rail Transit 2 announced free rides to commuters on selected hours on Sunday, Dec. 30. The LRT2 management said the free rides can be availed of from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It said this was in commemoration of Rizal Day. Earlier, the Metro Rail Transit 3 also announced it was giving free rides to commuters during selected hours on the same day.

Man killed after being hit by PNR train in Manila

(Eagle News)–A man was killed after a Philippine National Railways train ran over him on Wednesday, Dec. 19. PNR spokesperson Joseline Geronimo said in a radio interview the man crossed the railway in Pandacan, Manila past 6 a.m. as the train was moving. He was killed on the spot. Although the man has been identified, authorities preferred to withhold his name until after his family has been informed about what happened.  

Poe: Only a third of P977-million TRAIN fuel subsidy given to operators, drivers

(Eagle News) — Senator Grace Poe on Thursday, Dec. 13, revealed only one third of the P977 million allotted as fuel subsidy for jeepney drivers and operators has been distributed to them. According to Poe, based on a report given to her,  only 69,065 ‘Pantawid Pasada’ cards containing P5,000 subsidy each were turned over to the drivers and operators, for a total amount of P345 million. Economic managers withdraw recommendation to suspend hike in excise taxes on petroleum products

MRT-3 unloads passengers after train experiences “electrical motor failure”

(Eagle News)–Over 500 passengers were unloaded from a Metro Rail Transit 3 train on Thursday, Sept. 27, after it experienced electrical motor failure. In an advisory, the MRT3 management said the 540 passengers were unloaded from the  train heading southbound at the Araneta Center Cubao station at 6:24 a.m. The motor failure was due to worn-out electrical sub-components, the MRT-3 said. The passengers were allowed to board the next train, which arrived five minutes later.
