JUST IN: Spain and Portugal reach World Cup knockout round

MOSCOW, Russia (AFP)–Spain and Portugal reached the World Cup last 16 on Monday on a dramatic evening dominated by VAR decisions. Spain, who topped Group B, drew 2-2 with Morocco with a late equaliser that was referred to the video assistant referee and Iran held Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal to a 1-1 draw.

Morocco out of World Cup contention after 1-0 defeat to Portugal

MOSCOW, Russia (AFP) — Morocco are out of contention for the World Cup in Russia after Portugal beat the north African side 1-0 in their Group B match on Wednesday. Cristiano Ronaldo gave the European champions the lead with a header in the fourth minute and Herve Renard’s side could not respond, leaving them with no mathematical chance of reaching the knockout stage.
