Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is expected to announce an increase in generation charge for the month of April. This increase is due to expensive liquid fuel used in the Malampaya gas facility.
As the Malampaya plant shutdowns for maintenance, consumers should expect higher electricity rates this summer.
Meralco may increase electric charges as the price of electricity in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market went up.
Power rates are due to increase this month because of the increase in electricity rates in the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM). The Manila Electric Company also confirmed that the generation charge will increase. The rate of increase will be announced on Monday. In Luzon, power consumption has also increased with the start of the summer season. The Department of Energy, in the meantime, called on the public to save on electricity.
The Meralco warned the public against fake collectors who offer discounts to the consumers.
Meralco will implement cuts on electricity charges this December due to lower generation charges.
The Palace asked Meralco to protect consumers from those who use jumpers, because the cost of such illegal devices were passed on consumers by charging them “systems loss”.
Meralco is expecting an increase in consumers availing of their pre-paid electricity scheme. Known as “Kuryente Load”, said scheme was proven to be cheaper compared to the usual electricity payment scheme.
Meralco has temporarily shut down power in some areas in Quezon City due to heavy flood in said areas. Areas with no power include: 1. Roosevelt Ave. 2. Champaca St. in Roxas District 3. Scout Ojeda 4. Old Samson Road in Balintawak
Good news for electric consumers. The Manila Electric Company has announced that the electric bills will go down P0.58 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) this month on lower generation and transmission charges resulting in lower electric bills in September.
