Ombudsman orders dismissal of Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog

(Eagle News) — The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the dismissal of Iloilo Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog from government service. Runway at Iloilo airport temporarily closed after Cebu Pacific plane incident; several flights cancelled

(Eagle News)– The runway at the Iloilo International Airport was temporarily closed early Saturday, following what airline authorities said was the “veer(ing) to the side” of a Cebu Pacific plane the day before. 180 passengers evacuated from Cebu Pacific plane at Iloilo airport

(Eagle News) — More than 100 passengers were evacuated from a plane upon its arrival at the Iloilo International Airport on Friday. In an advisory, Cebu Pacific said the passengers of flight 5J461 from Manila to Iloilo were evacuated at 11:18 p.m. It did not say what prompted the emergency evacuation. “All passengers are accounted for and are safe. They are being attended to by airport personnel,” it added.

4.4-magnitude quake jolts Antique

ANINI-Y, Antique (Eagle News) – A magnitude-4.4 earthquake shook Antique on Wednesday morning, July 26. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the center of the quake was recorded at 37 kilometers southeast of Anini-y, Antique. It is tectonic in origin and has a depth of eight kilometers. Intensity 2 was recorded in San Jose de Buenavista, the capital of Antique.  The quake was also felt in Iloilo. 

Maasin, Iloilo mayor implements curfew after NPA attack

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) – The mayor of Maasin, Iloilo implemented a curfew in his town following the attack on the police station in Maasin, Iloilo by members of the New People’s Army (NPA). Maasin Mayor Mariano Malones implemented a curfew from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.  This is expected to last for one month or once authorities in the area determine that Maasin is safe from further attacks.

Maute sister, two other suspected terrorists, arrested in Iloilo port

(Eagle News) — A sister of the two Maute brothers Omarkhayam and Abdullah was arrested on a ship near the Iloilo port together with two other suspected terrorists, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
