House justice committee okays death penalty measure

(Eagle News)– The House justice committee on Wednesday (December 7) approved its substitute bill seeking to revive the death penalty as punishment for heinous crimes. Twelve voted to approve the bill, six voted against it, and one abstained. The committee approval of the measure implies it might meet the deadline for its passage before Congress goes on holiday break. House Justice Committee ready to hear impeachment complaints against VP Binay

According to House Justice Committee Chairman Niel Tupas Jr., he received information that impeachment complaints are being readied against Vice President Binay brought about by the issue of the over-priced building in Makati. Tupas, however, withhold the name of his source of information. Tupas added that once the complaint reaches the Justice Committee, it will be automatically heard. Lastly, Tupas said that the House should focus on priority bills and not on impeachment complaints.
