URGENT: Tsunami alert issued after 6.8-magnitude quake by Vanuatu: US monitors

A US monitor issued a tsunami alert Wednesday after a large 6.8-magnitude quake struck off the coast of Vanuatu. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 91 kilometres and was about 340 kilometres (210 miles) northwest of the capital Port Vila, the US Geological Survey said. Hazardous tsunami waves were possible for coasts within 300 kilometres of the epicentre, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said in a preliminary assessment. © Agence France-Presse

(Eagle News) — A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Davao Oriental early Sunday, Aug. 15: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake — an aftershock of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Governor Generoso  on Aug. 12 — struck at 3:22 a.m. It had its epicenter 164 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso and was tectonic in origin. The depth of focus was eight kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

(Eagle News) — A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck off Davao Oriental early Saturday, Aug. 14. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake–an aftershock of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Governor Generoso on Aug. 12–hit at 4:17 a.m. It had its epicenter 170 kilometers southeast of Tarragona. The depth of focus was 35 kilometers. The following intensity was reported: Intensity III – Mati City No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

5.1-magnitude quake strikes off Davao Oriental

(Eagle News) –A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Davao Oriental early Friday, Aug. 13. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck at 4:28 a.m. It had its epicenter 119 kilometers southeast of Tarragona. The depth of focus was 13 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

PHIVOLCS lowers Mt. Pinatubo alert status to “normal”

Pinatubo to “normal.” PHIVOLCS said this was  following “a continued decline in earthquake activity and a return to baseline seismic parameters” in the volcano since July 1.
