Guevarra gets CA nod as justice secretary

(Eagle News)–The Commission on Appointments on Wednesday, May 30, confirmed the appointment of Menardo Guevarra as Justice Secretary. Guevarra’s confirmation came a day after Bernadette Romulo-Puyat was confirmed as Tourism Secretary. Guevarra was deputy executive director before he was appointed to head the justice department, whose then-secretary, Vitaliano Aguirre III, resigned following public indignation over a DOJ panel of prosecutors dismissal of drug charges filed against self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and others.

Moira Encina Eagle News Service Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has directed all Justice undersecretaries and assistant secretaries, except career officials, to tender their courtesy resignation. In a memorandum dated April 24, Guevarra ordered those concerned to submit their resignation letters to President Rodrigo Duterte through him not later than April 30.
