Former town mayor shot dead while under hospital arrest in Cebu

(Eagle News) — A former town mayor was shot dead while under hospital arrest in Medellin, Cebu, the police said. Police said several armed men barged inside the Bogo-Medellin Corporation Medical Center in Barangay Luy-a at 11:50 p.m. and shot Ricardo “Ricky” Ramirez, 55, dead. Ramirez, who was arrested in 2017 for illegal possession of firearms, was a detainee at the Medellin District Jail. A probe is still ongoing.

One killed in Manila fire

(Eagle News) — One person was killed after a fire hit a building in Manila on Thursday, Jan. 17. Authorities have yet to identify the victim, who was found in a bathroom in the residential-commercial building in Sta. Cruz, Manila that caught fire at 9:52 a.m. The blaze reached the second alarm. A fire-out was declared at 10:50 a.m. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
