COMELEC needs to conduct public bidding

The Commission on Elections needs to conduct a public bidding for the renewal of the contract for 80, 000 PCOS machines that will be used in the 2016 elections. Said public bidding will address transparency issues, according to a COMELEC commissioner.

Last day of SK registration

Today is the last day of registration for the Sangguniang Kabataan election next year. But the Commissions on Election changed the deadline in areas affected by tropical storm “Mario”. Areas with extended SK registration include: Obando, Bulacan – September 23 – October 1 Cainta, Rizal – September 21-30 Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur – September 27 – October 6 According to COMELEC Resolution No. 9899, the SK election will be held on February 21, 2015.

COMELEC on online voting

According to COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes, this is conditioned on the Congress passing a law regarding online voting. Brillantes is confident that this system will increase the number of voters that will participate in the election as well as exercise their right to vote. According to estimates made by the COMELEC, the number of overseas voter that will participate in the 2016 elections may reach 1.5 million.

COMELEC on plebiscite

The Commission on Elections will not be able to conduct plebiscite regarding the proposed charter change because the Department of Budget and Management did not approve the Commission’s 7 billion peso plebiscite budget.
