LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, United States (Reuters) – With a huge star cast and a multi-million dollar budget, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ was launched on an equally large scale with a red carpet stretching along Hollywood Boulevard outside the Dolby Theatre on Tuesday (April 12).

When asked about the size of the premiere, leading man Chris Evans who plays Captain America told Reuters “It’s overwhelming, it’s a little terrifying but you know what? For a movie like this, when you hope people see it, it’s what required.”

The film follows on from both ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’. In it, Captain America comes to blows with his Avengers colleague Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when his old best friend and enemy, the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) is blamed for a terrorist attack.

While Captain America tries to help his old friend, Iron Man seeks to take both men into captivity. Soon the other Avengers take sides and twelve of them battle it out together.

“We worked so hard for them, for the fans,” said Evans. “We don’t do this for ourselves, we do it so the fans are happy especially with properties like this – these well-known characters that have these die-hard fans with high expectations – it’s for them.”

Although reviews for the film have yet to be published, Robert Downey Jr. has been pleased with the reactions he’s heard so far. “You know, you get all gussied up when you come out and promote these things whether they suck or not but it’s really nice to be getting the groundswell – ‘We really enjoyed this, we want to see it again, we’re going to tell people it’s good’. It makes things much easier for my long-suffering wife, I’ll tell you that much,” he said at the premiere.

Rumors have been rife about whether Downey Jr. will be returning for a fourth installment of his own Marvel solo series ‘Iron Man’ and when asked at the premiere if there was any news on the matter he replied “I wonder. I mean, I could tell you anything but I’m not one of those to play coy. If it happens, you speed-dial me, I’ll let you know.”

93 year-old Stan Lee was the president of chairman of Marvel Comics for many years and even created Spider-Man who appears in ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Asked how far he’d like the Marvel cinematic universe to expand, Lee who also acts as executive producer on the film replied “The way it’s going. They’re taking over the world. Every movie seems to be better than the last, more exciting than the last and the fans are so eagerly and so desperately waiting for each new movie. You can just see the excitement out there.”

‘Captain America: Civil War’ begins its international theatrical rollout from April 27.
