Disney has announced that it will release the eighth installment in the “Star Wars” film series on May 26, 2017.
Chief Executive Bob Iger made the announcement on Thursday (March 12) at Disney’s annual shareholders meeting.
The J.J. Abrams-directed seventh installment in the series, “Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens,” opens this year on December 18.
It was also revealed on Thursday that a spin-off from the franchise, already announced to star Felicity Jones, will be called “Rogue One” and will be released in December 2016.
“Rogue One” will be a standalone “Star Wars” film.
