MEXICO CITY (Reuters) — More videos reveal the destruction brought about by Mexico’s 7.1-magnitude quake on Tuesday, September 19.
The quake struck about 150 kilometers (90 miles) southeast of the capital and has killed as many 273 people.
One video posted on Twitter shows a fire that quickly turns into a massive explosion, sending crowds of people running.
Another post, from Facebook, shows students running from Mexico City’s Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, while parts of a different building collapse behind them.
Fifty-two buildings have collapsed in Mexico City alone, according to Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera.
Initial reports suggest that collapses were limited mostly to buildings that predated the 1985 quake, after which stricter building codes were enacted.
