EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Eagle News) – It looks like the bye utilized last week by the Seattle Seahawks paid off as they defeated the woeful New York Giants (1-6) at their home field, MetLife Stadium, 24-7.
With a strong second half, the Seahawks capitalized on some great offensive firepower. Seattle starting quarterback Russell Wilson connected on numerous passes with wide receiver Doug Baldwin and starting tight end Jimmy Graham.
After a lifeless first quarter, the New York Giants took advantage of a second quarter fumble by Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls as New York Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning threw a five-yard touchdown to tight end Evan Engram to put them ahead 7-0.
Before the half, Wilson displayed his versatility of skills, charging the Seattle Seahawks down the field resulting in Blair Walsh nailing a 39-yard field goal to make it 7-3.
The second half was a different story. The Seattle defense placed constant pressure on Manning as he struggled to get things going with his receivers. The Legion of Boom, although unable to force any turnovers, clamped down on the New York receiving corps preventing them from making any big plays down field. Offensive receiving weapons Odell Beckham, Jr. and Sterling Shepard did not play for the Giants due to injury.
The play of the game came as the Seattle Seahawks offense executed a “flea flicker” play in which Russell Wilson completed a 38-yard pass to wide out Paul Richardson. Richardson displayed his above average athleticism by rising over Giants free safety Landon Collins, ripping the ball from his grasp and coming down for the score.
The Seahawks (4-2) play at home next Sunday, October 29th against the Houston Texans (3-3)
