ARKHANGELSK, Russia (Reuters) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday (March 30) denied that Russia had interfered in last year’s U.S. presidential election.

Attempting to quote a U.S. president, Putin said: “At one time (Ronald) Reagan debating, I think about taxes and addressing the Americans, said ‘Read my lips! No!”

U.S. media were quick to point out the original quote was actually said by George H.W. Bush in 1988.

Putin was speaking at an Arctic forum in northern Russia.
