Russian fugitive nabbed in Manila

(Eagle News)–The Bureau of Immigration has arrested a Russian wanted for fraud in his home country.

In a statement, the BI said Anton Likharev, 37, was arrested at the tourist visa section at the agency headquarters in Manila on Tuesday, March 5, after he tried to extend his temporary visitor’s visa.

The BI said Likharev, who had been staying in the country since 2016, was wanted in Russia for “large-scale crimes involving acquisition of other people’s property by means of deceit.”

Likharev was also arrested in 2017 after he allegedly killed an endangered green sea turtle in Negros Oriental.

“We will not allow fraudsters like him to hide in the Philippines, as they pose a risk to public interest,” BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said.
