Rodrigo “Rody” Roa Duterte, born on March 28, 1945, is to be inaugurated as the 16th President of the Philippines and is the first Philippine president to come from Mindanao.
Known by the nickname Digong, Duterte is a Filipino lawyer and politician, and is among the longest-serving mayors in the Philippines.
He decided to opt for a simple inauguration ceremony in Malacanang, instead of holding it in the Quirino grandstand, the site of many Philippine presidential inaugurations since the 1949 Quirino inaugural.
