Roads become rivers as torrential monsoon rains pound Metro Manila and Rizal




 

(Eagle News) — Strong torrential rains brought about by monsoon rains flooded many parts of Metro Manila on Saturday, August 11, stranding thousands of passengers and putting vehicles on a standstill.

The country’s weather bureau, PAGASA, issued a red rainfall warning level at 2 p.m. for Metro Manila and Rizal with serious flooding expected in flood prone areas. A red rainfall warning level means more than 30 millimeters of rain have been observed within an hour.

Roads became rivers in many parts of Quezon City, for instance. Boats were used to transport stranded passengers as vehicles could not pass inundated roads.

The monsoon rains were enhanced by tropical storm Karding as it moved outside the country. As of 10 a.m., Kardiang was already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
