(Eagle News) — Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez has agreed to be the Majority Floor Leader as had been decided by President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Albay Rep. Joey Salceda.

“He’s accepting the mandate from us,” he said of Romualdez.

Salceda said that they have also asked Romualdez to already report to Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano who had been chosen by President Duterte as the next House Speaker under a term-sharing agreement with Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

“We also asked him (Romualdez) to report now to Alan Peter with respect to the sense of the group that backed him that we will fully support Cayetano speakership,” Salceda said in an interview with reporters.

Salceda said that congressmen who are allies of the President vowed to unconditionally follow his decision on the House leadership.

“We basically unanimously agreed to unconditionally follow the President’s wish on the speakership, on the leadership of the house. No ifs, no buts,” he said.

Salceda is the designated spokesperson of 72 out of 167 legislators who are supporting Romualdez. They met in Pasig City after President Duterte on Monday announced his endorsement for the House Speaker post.
