Reduced market hours, limited entry/exit points imposed in Blumentritt market following overcrowding

(Eagle News) – The Manila city government has enforced market hours and limited entry points to the public markets in Blumentritt since April 15, after consumers recently crowded the area in violation of social distancing guidelines.

Mahigpit na inoobserba ang social distancing ng mga mamimili sa Blumentritt Market ngayong Miyerkules, ika-15 ng Abril matapos ipatupad ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Maynila ang mga bagong regulasyon sa pampublikong pamilihan (Social distancing is strictly observed by consumers at the Blumentritt Market today, 15th of April, after the City Government of Manila imposed new regulations at the public market)”, the Manila Public Information Office said in a statement.

The Manila Police District led the implementation of the new policies, which were enforced after public markets and grocery stores in the area were swamped by a surge of consumers following the closure of Balintawak market in Quezon City.

Personal [na] pinangangasiwaan ni Manila Police District (MPD) Station Commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Reynaldo Magdaluyo ang implementasyon ng mga bagong panuntunan (Manila Police District Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Reynaldo Magdaluyo personally led the implementation of the new policies”, the statement added.

To prevent a repeat of the incident, the city government designated three entry and exit points, namely: Blumentritt corner Rizal Avenue, Leonor Rivera corner Antipolo, and Blumentritt corner Aurora Blvd.

Residents of Manila will only be allowed in the area between 5:00 am to 12:00 pm, while those from other areas can only come in between 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Wholesale buyers, on the other hand, will only be allowed between 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
