Raise breast cancer awareness? Challenge accepted!

QUEZON City, Philippines (September 8) – Social media is full of change challenges, and there is every indication that they are here to stay. A fairly recent example is the black and white photo challenge that went viral in Facebook.

The challenge is simple enough. Once a friend tags you with a black and white photo, you have the choice ito either accept or decline the challenge. You will then replace your Facebook profile page with a black and white picture and post it with the status: “Challenge Accepted!”

A monochromatic photo challenge is nothing new and  anyone with a social media account may have posted a black-and-white photo as a profile pic. What makes this different is the stated purpose, which is to raise breast cancer awareness.

Is it effective or not? Well, with a lot of netizens asking what are the black and white photos all about, one can say that it is effective. Combine that with the reach of social media giant, Facebook, and that is a lot of awareness raised.

According to studies made in 2015, 68% of the population spend 8 hours of their time in their social media accounts. You cannot argue with these numbers. Social media truly is becoming the place to go if you want something to be heard.
