QUEZON CITY, March 16 (PIA)–The local government of Quezon City has approved a resolution supporting the passage of Senate Bill 1231 that seeks the mandatory inclusion of basic road safety and driver’s education in the the K to 12 program.
City Resolution 6984-2017, principally authored by Councilor Ranulfo Ludovica, described Senate Bill 1231 as laudable and timely, considering what he said was the fact that road accidents ranked as one of the leading causes of mortality in the country.
“What is important is to instill good road safety habits and driver’s discipline to young people in order for them to learn how to prevent road accidents in the future,” Ludovica said.
Senate Bill 1231, or the proposed Road Safety and Comprehensive Driver’s Education Act, was reportedly filed to effectively reduce road casualties and stop road accidents in the country.
If enacted, Senate Bill 1231 will direct the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Transportation (DoTR), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to formulate a basic road safety and comprehensive driver’s education subject for students of the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum or the K to 12 program.
A copy of the approved resolution has already been furnished by the QC Council to the Office of Senator Grace Poe, the principal author of Senate Bill 1231. (PAISO QC/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
