President Duterte, US President Trump to meet during APEC gathering in Vietnam, ahead of ASEAN Summit

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is set to meet United States President Donald Trump ahead of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit, as the Philippine leader flies to Vietnam for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) this week.

Foreign officials have yet to confirm if there are going to be a bilateral meetings between the two leaders.

But Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Leo Herrera-Lim said there would be “several opportunities” for Trump and Duterte to meet.

Both Duterte and Trump have similarities in their language.

This would be the two leaders’ first face-to-face meeting.

This early, the Duterte-Trump meeting is already highly anticipated.

President Duterte may also meet Chinese President Xi, Russian President Putin

Meanwhile, President Duterte may also be meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the APEC Summit.

Both leaders have earlier said that they might not be able to attend the  summit in the Philippines.

The APEC meet will be until November 11.  The 31st ASEAN Summit in the Philippines will start on the next day, November 12.  (Eagle News Service)
