(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit Boracay island on November 8 where he is expected to distribute the certificates of land ownership award (CLOA) to the indigenous tribes in the resort island.
A portion of the 3.1 hectares of land in Barangay Manocmanoc will be distributed to the 48 members of the Ati tribe.
The decision came after the six month-rehabilitation period of the island of Boracay. It was also a follow-up of his earlier statement that he wants to place the island under land reform.
“The entire island will be declared as a land reform area para sagarin natin. Give it to the people. But I don’t mind Congress, I would suggest if you really want to maintain the commercial quality of that place, maybe you can cut a strip…,” President Duterte said in an interview on May 2018.
“I do not know how you will do it but I’m telling you Boracay is still classified as forestal and agricultural,” he added.
