(Eagle News) – President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos who have been vaccinated to return for their second dose so they could receive the full protection against COVID-19.

In his “Talk to the People” on Monday night, June 7, President Duterte said the second dose is needed as it is a “booster” shot to further strengthen the immunity of a person who has been vaccinated.

Before this, the Department of Health said that around 113,000 have failed to return for their second dose on their scheduled vaccination.  Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that these individuals could still return anytime to get their second dose.

Ang problema dito yung mga nabakunahan na , sa first infjection nyo, kailangan nyo ng booster. Please find time to go back and line up,” Duterte said.

“Show your card, so that they would know that you are receiving the second dose,” he said.

The President stressed that the first dose is not enough to receive the full protection against COVID-19.

Alam mo ang medisina nitong mga Sinovac, Sinopharm and the rest, dito ngayon — which are available in the Philippines, they require a second dose, booster. At kayong iisa lang, kulang ‘yan. Pakilinya lang ulit for the second dose because ang protection ninyo is not complete without the booster,” he said.

He appealed to those who are “hard-headed” to please follow the instruction.

Mahirapan talaga akong magkumbinse sa Pilipino, lalo na ‘yong matigas ang ulo. Kindly follow instruction. Hindi naman mahirap ‘yan eh. You find time at your convenience na bumalik doon pumila at magpabakuna ng tinatawag nilang second booster. Iyon ang magbigay sa inyo ng more or less a good protection,” he said.

President Duterte also stressed that even if vaccinated, and given the two doses, the public should still follow the minimum health protocols of wearing face masks and face shield, proper handwashing, frequent sanitizing, and social distancing.

He said that getting vaccinated alone is not enough.

“But it does not guarantee that you will not be contaminated unless you observe the protocols of the washing of the hands again and mask and social distancing kasi hindi pa nawala talaga itong COVID-19.”
