Polish cyclist beats his own world record cycling up Taipei 101 Tower

A Polish mountain biker broke his own world record by cycling up 3,139 steps of the Taipei 101 tower on Sunday (March 22).

Because the skyscraper did not have enough stairs, Krystian Herba had to first cycle up to the 60th floor, and then takes an elevator to the ground level before going up to the 91st floor to complete his record.

It took him two hours and 13 minutes to complete the challenge.

“I was trying to keep the rhythm, all the time, the same. And it was almost the same the first 52 floors. I made just, I did just a little bit faster than the next 52 floors. I’m really tired, but I’m pretty happy. It was absolutely the most difficult and hardest challenge in my life,” Herba said.

The 33-year-old physical education (PE) teacher surpassed his previous record of last year, when he climbed 2,919 steps in Melbourne’s Eureka Tower, but is still waiting for confirmation of the new record by the Guinness World Record authorities.

According to a Polish representative in Taiwan, Herba had previously completed nine similar challenges, climbing some of the tallest buildings in the world.

Taipei 101 was formerly the tallest building in the world between 2004 and 2010, before the Burj Khalifa in Dubai took this title. It is more than 500 meters tall.
