Police identify taxi driver who was allegedly the victim of teenager’s hold-up try

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Police officials claim that they were able to find and identify the taxi driver who was allegedly robbed by 19-year old Carl Arnaiz.

The driver, Tomas Marleo Bagcal, executed two affidavits.  In his first affidavit, the driver claimed that he did not remember anything about the appearance of the alleged hold-upper.

However, in his second affidavit, Bagcal identified the suspect and said that Arnaiz, was holding a caliber .38 gun when he allegedly declared a holdup on the night of August 18 in Caloocan City.

After Arnaiz took the driver’s wallet, Bagcal said that the suspect ran away.

However, Bagcal allegedly immediately sought the help of policemen seen near the area.  He allegedly accompanied the police in pursuing the suspect and was behind an electric post when the shoot-out happened.

“Pinutukan sila…Eh, siyempre, anong reaksyon ng mga pulis natin? Nakipag-barilan na rin. Patay,” Bagcal allegedly narrated in his affidavit.

In a paraffin test conducted by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory, the results showed that Arnaiz tested positive for gunpowder nitrates.

But during a senate hearing, the autopsy findings of both the Public Attorneys’ Office as well as the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed that the teenager had bruises, and five gunshot wounds, as well as abrasions in the back, which meant that it would have been difficult for him to fight back — contrary to the Caloocan policemen’s claim.
