PNP’s 58th COVID-19 fatality is 47-year-old police officer assigned in Maguindanao

(Eagle News) — The number of COVID-19 deaths among police personnel rose to 58 after the Philippine National Police reported another death, this time from Mindanao.

According to PNP data, the latest COVID-19 fatality among its ranks was a 47-year-old police officer assigned in Maguindanao.

The PNP said the police officer, who was immuno-compromised due to diabetes, was rushed to the hospital for fever and cough on May 3.

He underwent an RT-PCR test which yielded positive for COVID-19.

On May 5, he was declared dead by the attending physician due to Acute Respiratory Failure.

“To our police officers with a comorbidity, always check your health and double your protection, if you feel any symptoms, immediately seek the advice of a medical practitioner,” PNP Chief Debold Sinas said.

“To protect others, start taking care of your self first,” he added.

As of May 6, the PNP has recorded  87 more COVID-19 cases among police personnel, bringing the total number of cases to 20,963.

Of these, based on PNP data, 1,540 were active.

A total of 136 new recoveries also brought the total number of recovered personnel to 19,365.
