PNP reports 173 more COVID-19 cases

(Eagle News) — Over 100 more police personnel have contracted COVID-19.

According to the latest Philippine National Police data, the additional 173 COVID-19 cases pushed the PNP COVID-19 total to 16230.

Of these, 2614 are active.

The total number of recoveries also rose, now at 13576, with the addition of 191 ones.

No additional deaths were reported, which means the death toll remains at 40.

Earlier, the PNP announced among those who tested positive for COVID-19 within their ranks was PNP Chief Debold Sinas.

Sinas designated Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar as the PNP’s officer-in-charge while he is recovering.

The Philippines is dealing a surge in COVID-19 cases, prompting the government to re-impose an enhanced community quarantine over the Greater Manila Area.

The ECQ was supposed to end on April 4, but this was extended to at least one more week in a bid to arrest the surge.
