PNP: Debt possible motive in kidnapping of Chinese woman in Makati

(Eagle News) — Authorities are looking at debt as a motive in the kidnapping of a woman in Makati on Monday night.

Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas did not elaborate, and did not release the identities of the suspects and the victim, but media reports identified her as Zhou Mei, 28.

The kidnapping took place along Paseo de Roxas corner Nieva St., where authorities also recovered a deed of sale reportedly containing the name of the victim’s live-in partner, Cheng Tangbin.

Makati police chief Col. Rogelio Simon had told reporters there were three suspects.

“Kumbaga lumapit siya (victim) doon sa van, at nung pumapasok na siya, pinipilit na siyang ipasok, doon na niya gustong lumabas. Doon na siya sumigaw,” Simon said.

A video showing the victim inside a van, with her leg still out the door, has since gone viral.

In the video, the victim was heard screaming and shouting “Tulong!” as the van sped away.
