“Pirates of the Caribbean” sails into top spot at box office

Reuters – Johnny Depp’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” claimed the top spot at the North American box office over the weekend (May 26 -28).

Pirates netted $62.2 million at the box office — the lowest box office opening for the entire five-film Disney franchise, according to boxofficemojo.com

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” took a distant second at the box office, bringing in nearly $20 million in ticket sales.

“Baywatch,” which reportedly cost nearly $60 million dollars to make, fell short of expectations, claiming the third place spot. The big screen version of the television series best known for featuring lifeguards running in slow motion, brought in $18 million.

“Alien: Covenant” took the fourth place spot with a weekend haul of nearly $11 million. Rounding out the top five was “Everything, Everything” the story about a teenage girl who manages to fall in love despite having an illness that requires her to live in a hermetically sealed house. The Warner Bros. film which based on a popular young adult book, made $6 million.
