People’s Choice name Depp and Bullock as favorite stars

As Hollywood’s inner industry circles prepare to hand out their gongs during award season, The People’s Choice Awards held their own democratic awards at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday (January 6).

The show was hosted by ‘Glee’s Jane Lynch, who after doing a song and dance number, honored actor Tom Lennon then promptly gave him first runner up in favor of Miss Colombia – a nod to the recent awards mix-up at the Miss Universe pageant.

The People’s Choice Awards honored music, television and film and winners including Meghan Trainor for Favorite Album, Sandra Bullock for Favorite Movie Actress and Johnny Depp for Favorite Movie Actor.

Actor Vin Diesel picked up the award for Favorite Movie for ‘Furious 7’ and at the end of his speech he paid homage to late actor Paul Walker by singing Wiz Khalifa’s memorial song ‘See You Again’ but was cut off by producers.

Chris Hemsworth picked up the Favorite Action Movie Actor but his popularity was used against him when Ellen DeGeneres, who was picking up the Favorite Humanitarian Award decided to make ‘other people happy’ by showing a shirtless photo of the Australian actor.

Dakota Johnson won the award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress for her role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. When picking up the award, she hugged one of the presenters who snagged her dress and remarked “Lesley just broke my dress. Ok, so, well, it’s not like nobody here hasn’t already seen my boobs.”

The evening was finished off with the television awards with ‘Homeland’ winning Favorite Premium Cable TV show, ‘Big Bang Theory’ winning Favorite Network TV Comedy, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ taking home the Favorite Network TV Drama – the final award of the night.

However, not everything ran smoothly during the evening when Sharon Osbourne and Sara Gilbert were interrupted by a man seemingly promoting music during their acceptance speech after they were announced Favorite Daytime Hosting Team.
